To honor one of the city’s most inspiring citizens, the Mayor of Asheville, North Carolina, has declared today, May 23, Bob Moog Day. Moog, a pioneer in the world of analog synthesis, lived in Asheville for many years prior to his death in 2005, and his Moog Music company is still based there.
To help celebrate the newly minted Bob Moog Day, which would’ve been Moog’s 79th birthday, his company is donating $25,000 worth of analog synths to Asheville City Schools. While his legacy lives on in Moog Music’s continuing to make amazing synthesizers and hold its annual Moogfest, the Bob Moog Foundation is yet another arm of Moog’s influence, and it aims to inspire and educate the next generation of musicians.
