Έχω πολύ καιρό να ποστάρω... Το χειρότερό μου, μάλιστα, είναι να γράφω σε RIP-threads...

Η μεγαλοσύνη του Gil Scott, όμως,  νομίζω ότι αξίζει μια εξαίρεση, κι ας γίνω γραφικός...

Έχω να γράψω, κι εγώ, αρκετό καιρό.

Νομίζω πως είναι ευκαιρία να αναλογιστεί κανείς πόσο επιδραστική είναι η παρουσία του GSH στην νεότερη μουσική. Προφανής είναι η αναφορά της χιπ χοπ σκηνής στο έργο του. Όσα αναφέρει ο Chuck D, είναι ακριβέστατα: and we do what we do and how we do because of you. And to those that don't know tip your hat with a hand over your heart & recognize(βλ. λινκ του o. p.). Δεν υπάρχει χιπ χόπερ που να έχει στοιχειώδη σχέση με τις βάσεις της μουσικής του -και όχι απλώς να φτιάχνει τύποις χιπ χοπ με πιστόλια, γυναίκες κι ακριβά αυτοκίνητα-, που να μην αναφέρεται στον GSH.

Εκτός αυτής της προφανούς επίδρασης, υπάρχει και η επιρροή σε άλλες, νεότερες μουσικές. Είτε αυτή αφορά την αμεσότητα της φόρμας του spoken word(π.χ. the streets) είτε αφορά και το ιδεολογικό περιεχόμενο της ποίησής του(π.χ. Rage against the machine), είναι σημαντικότατη.

Επίσης, το γεγονός ότι ήταν απ' τους πρώτους που μίλησαν ανοιχτά και άμεσα για την καταπίεση των μαύρων(και όχι μόνο), τον καθιστά εμβληματική φυσιογνωμία για την μουσική που έχει πολιτικές αναφορές, ανεξαρτήτως είδους.

Τέλος, κατά τη γνώμη μου, η στιχουργική του είναι ό,τι πιο δυνατό και άμεσο έχει γραφτεί για πολιτικά θέματα. Το the revolution will not be televised θεωρείται -δικαίως- ένας σταθμός στο έργο του. Παραθέτω τους στίχους:
