Features: 9
Made December 9, 2002. 19 frets(standard classical fret arrangement). Solid Western Red Ceder soundboard with laminated mahogany back snd sides. Rosewood fingerboard. The hardware is all right, nothing to get excited over(they do their job). Soundboard finnish has a warm redness in most lighting. The rosette is remarkable, very spanish looking. The luster of the finnished mahogany is stunning, almost like glowing honey(is that weird?).
Sound: 10
The sound of this light beauty is AMAZING. I think they gave it steroids at the shop. The projection is that of near concert-level volume which I can only assume is the result of the mahogany back and sides. For having spent only $500 on it I'd say that this is something to take note of. EVERY note on this guitar has an overtone, a ring that never ends and that makes me want more. Bright, loud, and robust tone. I have previously owned a Cordoba 50r($800) and the Esteve is above and beyond that. Maybe this just happened to be a special one or something because I was really confused at the price tag. But I didn't mind. OUTSTANDING SOUND!!!
Action, Fit, & Finish: 10
The action was custom fitted in Irvine, California, by Ronald Louis Fernandez(or at least someone in his shop), the only offcial importer of Esteve guitars in the States, and plays as if it were a dream. The frets were lowered a bit there, too, adding to this effect.
The bridge and purflings(doubt I spelled that right) are of good quality, nothing to be of great interest.
Reliability/Durability: 9
Although this guitar is very light(due to the mahogany) the wood seems very strong and sturdy. I think it will last a good 12-20 years or so. The finnish seems very dependable and appears to hold its luster, even when there were fingerprints all over it when it was still in the store.
Overall Rating: 10
For the money this guitar is Godly! The asthetics are almost as pleasing as the sound this little beauty sings out, and I do mean SINGS! The sound is that of a MUCH higher priced guitar(at least four times the amount I paid). I guess there's something to be said for a handmade guitar crafted in the manner of Spanish tradition. The Esteve guitar company has achieved many rewards for their masterful atristry and beautiful sound.
