1) " That smell often is a warning sign that you are over oiling the board, causing it to rot. I would say you should only need to oil the board once every 18-24 months, maybe sooner in a dry environment and you play a lot."
2) "I've experienced that too.... my problem was the strings!
I sweat alot in my hands when I'm playing, and all that old sweat and skin apperantly starts decomposing, making the STRINGS and the fretboard smell like piss..."

(...) i have a strat that stank so bad i took it apart and washed the hell out of it... it was covered in black scum as the guy never used a case or washed his hands!!!! i have it still and all these years later it still stinks... you can smell smoke on your hands after playing it even after all the washing and polishing i've given that strat!
It's one of my best strats and that is why i don't get rid of it..
Τhe case i vaccumed out, washed with a dap cloth, used Frebreeze spray and it still smells too... local vintage dealer told me to dump a whole box of Baking soda in the case and walk away for a few weeks... Shop Vac it out after a few weeks...
the store also told me hanging the guitars up and not storing them in a case is the only real way to get the smell to die down... over time they said it will go "
